Game Rules

The Basics

Euchre is a trick-taking card game played with four players in teams of two. Players sit across from their teammates. Euchre Freekz uses a standard 24-card deck containing the 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace of all four suits.

Objective

The goal is to be the first team to reach 10 points. Points are scored by winning the "trick" (playing the highest card). A team must win at least three out of the five tricks in a hand to score points.

Dealing & Trump Selection

Each player is dealt 5 cards. The top card of the remaining 4 cards is flipped face-up. Players take turns deciding whether to "order up" the dealer to pick up the flipped card, which makes that suit the "trump" suit.

If everyone passes, the flipped card is turned face-down, and players take turns choosing a trump suit (it cannot be the suit that was initially flipped).

"Stick the Dealer"

If all players pass during the second round of calling trump, the dealer is forced to choose a trump suit. This variation is enforced in all Euchre Freekz games to keep the action moving!

The Bowers

Once a trump suit is decided, the ranking of the cards changes:

Gameplay

The player to the left of the dealer leads the first trick. Other players must "follow suit" if they have a card of the led suit. If they cannot follow suit, they may play a trump card to win the trick or throw an off-suit card. The highest card played of the led suit wins, unless a trump card is played, in which case the highest trump card wins.

What is Freeky Clubs?

Freeky Clubs is our custom twist on the classic game of Buck Euchre (also known as Dirty Clubs). It is played individually (cutthroat) rather than in teams. You are playing for yourself!

Watch How to Play

The Points System (25 to 0)

Unlike regular Euchre where you count up to 10, in Freeky Clubs you start high and work your way down:

Staying vs. Dropping Out

Because getting Bucked is costly, you have a choice to make after trump is called: Stay in and fight for tricks, or Drop out of the hand. If you drop out, you sit the hand out, your score doesn't change, and you avoid the risk of taking a 5-point penalty.

Note: The player who called the trump suit (the Maker) cannot drop out.

The "Freeky Clubs" Twist

If a Club is flipped up as the initial trump card by the dealer, the rules change drastically:

  • Everybody must stay in the hand! Nobody is allowed to drop out, putting everyone at risk of getting Bucked.
  • Stick the Dealer applies. If all players pass on the first and second rounds of bidding, the dealer must call a trump suit.
